Maltby Youth Umpire Program
The Maltby Pony Baseball Youth Umpire Program offers a great opportunity for youth who love baseball. Those who join the Maltby Umpires will receive training on rules, umpire mechanics and participate in detailed rules discussions which can improve their playing skill. Our youth umpires also learn and practice skills that will help prepare them for other jobs. Pay starts at $25 per game and Maltby provides all the protective gear (except the cup) and an umpire shirt. At the end of the season they are also eligeble for a raise and a future job reference. All of the games our youth umpires will work are mustang and bronco (9-12 year olds) and they will work in 2-man umpiring teams.
Training classes start in March. There are 4 classroom lessons and 2 field sessions. The training culminates with the Mustang and Bronco Jamboree where umpires get live practice before they umpire any real games. If you are 15 years old, love baseball and can work an average of 1-2 games per week, then contact Steve Fishman (Maltby President) at maltbypresident@gmail.com.
As a bonus, I also offer my umpires tutoring for their math and science classes. I just graduated with a bachelors degree in chemistry and minors in physics and biology. I am on a path to teach high school science and would like to make sure that my umpires are doing well in the class as well as on the field.
